What’s the Special about the Tower Adventurer iSUP?

If you want the rigidity of a hardboard and the ease of use of an inflatable stand up paddle board, the Tower Adventurer 2 is a pretty solid bet. This inflatable stand up paddle board (iSUP) is the sequel to the wildly successful Adventurer iSUP and packs a huge big bang for your buck.

The Tower Adventurer 2 is marketed as an iSUP that’s almost as solid as a hardboard. For the most part, the Tower Adventurer 2 lives up to this boast, making it an excellent choice for anyone who hates using an inflatable paddle board that feels like a bouncy castle. Overall, this is a solid board with bullet proof construction, including high grade PVC. However, being an inflatable iSUP, the Adventurer 2 still suffers from some of the common pitfalls when compared to a hardboard, including becoming quit difficult to manage in wind or on choppy water.

In a nutshell, here’s what you’re getting with the Adventurer 2 iSUP:

Tower Adventurer 2 Specifications:

  • Length when inflated: 10′ 4″
  • Thickness: 6″
  • Military-grade PVC material
  • 2 year warranty
  • Includes pump, bungee, fiberglass paddle and carrying handles

Pros:

  •  Very rigid for an inflatable SUP
  • Easy for beginners
  • High quality, durable construction

Cons:

  • Won’t deal with moderate size waves well
  • Becomes hard to steer in wind
  • Isn’t the best choice for riders with larger body types

The best thing about the Adventurer 2 iSUP is easily its rigidity. From a distance, it can even look a lot like a hardboard. However, certain body types may find it still isn’t solid enough. Despite claiming to support up to 158 kilograms, some users weighing over 110 kilograms have complained the Adventurer 2 doesn’t deal with their weight well. If you have a larger body type, don’t be surprised if this SUP feels a little too bouncy. Like other inflatable paddle boards, the Adventurer 2 also won’t fare well in rough conditions. In serious surf or even moderate wind, you may find this board hard to control, and generally just a frustrating mess. This is because all inflatables simply don’t have the weight of hardboards, no matter how solid their construction.

However, inflatable SUP boards do have some serious advantages over hardboards. For one, they’re easy to transport. Rolled up, the Adventurer 2 iSUP can be compacted down to the size of a sleeping bag, making it a spot on choice for anyone looking to take their board overseas, or just hates driving to the beach with a plank on the roof of their vehicle.

Moreover, in its own environment, the Tower Adventurer 2 iSUP is a dream. Put her in some nice calm water, and you’ve got a board that almost anyone can use. Even beginners with virtually no paddle boarding experience will find the Adventurer 2 easy to get the hang of.

One final advantage of the Adventurer 2 is its bullet proof design. While many cheaper inflatables are notorious for racking up the dings, the Adventurer 2 is surprisingly hard to damage. The makers claim the Adventurer 2 can even survive being run over by a car. While we don’t know of anyone who has actually put this claim to the test, the board seems to be able to endure the occasional rocky shoreline with ease, and won’t give up on life the minute it makes contact with gravel. To sum things up: the Adventurer 2 isn’t for everyone, but is a great investment for anyone looking to get straight into some paddle boarding without dealing with a cumbersome, clunky hardboard.

About Tower Paddle Boards

Already with loads of success under their belt, Tower Paddle Boards burst onto the scene in 2012 with their appearance on Shark Tank. After a less than stellar pitch (watch the video, you’ll understand), tech mogul Mark Cuban invested $150K for 30% of the company and the rest was history.

According to Forbes, Tower Paddle Boards revenues have ballooned to over $5 million in 2014 and all by following two simple rules:

  1. Provide the highest quality SUP boards and packages on the market.
  2. Keep costs down by selling directly to consumers.
